Chip Rally Faces Its Toughest Test Yet

Stocks are muted today after yesterday's record close, with the Dow topping 52,000 for the first time as easing U.S. Iran tensions lifted sentiment into the new session. Traders now turn to May JOLTS job openings and consumer confidence data for direction. Beneath the calm, semiconductors are finishing a historic quarter, with the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index up +81% since April despite last week's sharp -8% slide, the worst since April 2025.

Apple Speeds Up Security Patches

Apple (AAPL) is rolling out iOS security patches ahead of its usual release cycle, citing AI's ability to accelerate hacking tool development. The company said it needs to shorten the gap between when fixes are announced and when they reach customers, a break from its normal practice of bundling patches with full iOS releases. The latest fixes arrive ahead of iOS 26.6, though Apple noted no evidence the patched flaws had been exploited. The move reflects how AI is narrowing the window attackers have to exploit known vulnerabilities.

Toyota & Joby Launch Manufacturing Venture

Joby Aviation (JOBY) is up about +7% today after its subsidiary Joby Aero formed a joint venture with Toyota Motor (TM) to manufacture the company's S4 eVTOL aircraft. Toyota will own 51% of the venture, Joby Toyota Aero Manufacturing Company (JTAMPC), investing $1M against Joby's $980K stake. The five-member board splits three seats to TM and two to JOBY, with major corporate actions requiring approval from both companies. The deal also includes plans for an exclusive manufacturing and IP licensing agreement.

SpaceX Considers Trump Account Stock Gift

SpaceX (SPCX) has discussed contributing shares to the Trump administration's new Trump Accounts children's savings program, sources say. No agreement has been reached, and it remains unclear whether Elon Musk would donate shares, how much, or in what form, as Musk and Trump appear to be mending ties after Musk's administration departure last year. SPCX, which recently reached a $2.2T valuation following its public debut, would join a program that has already drawn pledges from Michael Dell, BlackRock (BLK), and Bank of America (BAC), with more than 6M children enrolled ahead of next week's launch.

Strategy's Bitcoin Treasury Hits Breaking Point

Bitcoin (BTC-USD) is hovering near $60K after nearly halving from last summer's $120K peak, deepening losses for crypto's biggest believers. Strategy (MSTR), the bitcoin treasury company led by Michael Saylor, has posted a combined $32B unrealized loss across the past two quarters despite holding nearly 850K BTC. MSTR's enterprise value has now fallen below the value of its bitcoin holdings for the first time, breaching the key 1x mNAV threshold and forcing the company to consider selling assets to fund dividends, a move Saylor had long resisted.
