Weak Jobs Report Sends Markets Tumbling

Markets are down more than -1.1% in premarket trading after a shockingly weak February jobs report rattled investors, with U.S. nonfarm payrolls dropping by -92K, a dramatic reversal from January's +126K gain and far below the +60K consensus. Healthcare, a recent pillar of jobs growth, saw a decline due to strike activity, while employment in information and the federal government continued to slide.

Maersk Suspends Two Middle East Routes

Maersk (AMKBY) has temporarily suspended two shipping services linking the Middle East to Asia and Europe as a precautionary safety measure amid the ongoing Iran conflict. The Strait of Hormuz, through which roughly 20% of global oil and gas passes, has effectively halted shipping traffic since U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran began February 28, leaving 147 container ships sheltering in the Persian Gulf and driving freight rate increases across global markets. The disruptions have forced container shipping giants to reroute vessels around the southern tip of Africa, adding significant time and cost to global supply chains.

United Airlines Warns of Meaningful Fuel Cost Hit

United Airlines (UAL) CEO Scott Kirby warned that surging jet fuel prices will have a "meaningful" impact on Q1 results, with jet fuel up +58% since last Friday to $3.95 per gallon following U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran. UAL does not hedge fuel, leaving it fully exposed to the spike, and Kirby flagged that higher costs will "probably start quick" to flow through to airfares. Despite the headwind, demand has remained resilient with booked revenue up +20% YoY, and UAL is seeing an unexpected booking surge as travelers reroute around the Middle East.

Marvell Technology Rides AI Wave to Record Revenue

Marvell Technology (MRVL) is up more than +10% in premarket trading after topping Street estimates with Q4 EPS of $0.80 and revenue of $2.2B, capping a record fiscal 2026, with revenue up +42% YoY on the back of booming AI demand. Looking ahead, the company issued above-consensus Q1 guidance of $2.4B in revenue and $0.79 in EPS, with CEO Matt Murphy pointing to accelerating growth, record design wins, and a rapidly expanding data center business as key drivers.

Study Shows Generic Semaglutide Could Cost Under $3 Per Month

Novo Nordisk (NVO) is under pressure after a new study found that generic semaglutide could cost as little as $28-$140 per person annually for injectables, a fraction of NVO's current $675 per month branded price following its recent -50% list price cut. The findings add to mounting pressure on NVO, which already faces generic competition in several major markets and projected up to a -13% drop in 2026 profits tied to semaglutide patent expirations.
